About me
Hello! My name is Emily, and I run Emily’s Edits. I am a freelance editor looking to take on more clients. I am still considered relatively new to this line of work, so I am looking to take on a few projects at a much lower rate than usual to gain more experience and build rapport with new writers.
A little bit about me:
-
Bachelor of Science in Communication, minor in Creative Writing
-
Certifications through Knowadays’ Becoming a Proofreader and Becoming an Editor courses
-
Internship through Keele Publishing
-
Active membership through Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP)
-
You can also find me on Upwork, Fiverr, and LinkedIn
-
Avid reader, writer, and lover of the Oxford comma!
Genres I am particularly interested in are romance, fantasy, women’s fiction, and sci-fi—with a strong preference for YA and NA.
Ideally, I hope to find authors with whom I can build a long-term partnership, but I am also perfectly okay with one-off works.
Feel free to email or message me at emilyseditsandproofreading@gmail.com
if you’re interested, and we can talk more about your project!

01
Developmental Editing
This is still a relatively early stage in the writing process, and this is where characters, setting, and tone all need to be fully established and structured to form a well-rounded manuscript.
02
Copy / Line / Technical Editing
This stage is where a lot of the more technical aspects of writing come into play. Here the focus is on spelling, grammar, and punctuation. All of the nitty gritty details that were ignored before need to be addressed here.
03
Proofreading
This is the last step before publication. The most important aspect of proofreading is maintaining consistency throughout the manuscript and catching any last errors that might have been missed in the editing process. After proofreading and making any last adjustments, the manuscript should be polished and ready for publication!
